New Mexico United
Merchandise Design
As Creative Director, I oversaw the creation and design of all merchandise, including jerseys, team apparel, and a range of novelty items, from yoga mats to themed collections celebrating Hispanic heritage and cobranded collaborations like the Albuquerque Dukes.
Jerseys
Through the release of the Taos Turquoise jersey in March of 2023, I led the design process for every one of New Mexico United's jersey. Jersey design is a highly collaborative process, involving designers, manufacturers, and various stakeholders, with the ultimate result being the ultimate representation of a club second only to its logo. The 2019 Adidas jerseys focused on creating a clean, classic look that emphasized the brand and sponsor, leveraging United's strong colorway. As we began to experiment with Meow Wolf and other specialty jerseys, we produced limited-edition runs of original designs with vendors outside the major manufacturers. Through trial and error, we created products that could compete with the big brands. The real breakthrough came in 2021 when PUMA agreed to produce fully custom jerseys featuring original designs on their premier silhouettes. The resulting jerseys for the '22 and '23 seasons (the first three PUMA jerseys pictured below) reflect the proven demand for United jerseys and represent landmark original designs crafted exclusively for New Mexico by one of global football's largest manufacturers.
General Merchandise
Managing a sports franchise's merchandise line can often lead to a chaotic mix of products driven by short-term marketing or sales initiatives. Through my design work, management of contributing designers, and collaboration with vendors, I focused on maintaining a sleek and consistent merchandise line that catered to diverse tastes. I ensured that no opportunity was missed while upholding the quality and integrity of a brand rooted in art and sport.
